Tree at the Earth’s Core.

If you have worries or concerns, particularly with things that are larger than your own influence, offer then up to the heart of the planet with this exercise. A solution or answer may surface in your mind.

Sit comfortably and relax into the weight and gravity of your physical body.

Allow your awareness to sink downwards into the ground and to extend as searching roots.

At the same time as establishing a web of roots spreading in a downwards and outwards direction, visualise and feel a vigorous taproot of your consciousness diving strong and straight, down towards the very centre of the planet.

As your root system becomes strong and established, really begin to focus on that deep thrusting taproot.

It dives through soil, subsoil and rock. It is sure and strong of the pull of the earth’s core. As you attend to this energy picture you may be aware also of many different levels of all sorts of possible scenes, landscapes and matter as your awareness dives towards the heart of the planet.

When you reach that central point of energy, allow as much as you need to flow into your body. You are of the Earth’s body, made of its energy. Be aware of this unbreakable bond with this planet. Allow your awareness to settle and take comfort from belonging.

When ready, allow the imagery to fade and return to the here and now.

Tree Roots Visualisation

A simple way to ground and centre your energies, reduce thought and mental activity and become connected to your surroundings:

Settle in your seat so you are comfortable. Have your feet uncrossed and firmly placed on the floor.

Take a few slow, deep breaths and allow yourself to relax further into your seat.

Lightly put your attention on your body. Feel its solidity and its weight. Become aware of the pull of gravity downwards and let your mind settle on the feel of that pull.

Now allow your awareness to flow downwards beyond your feet and begin to sense, see or feel that energy as roots growing and extending downwards into the earth. See them reaching out in a widening circle around you.

Feel those roots of energy as they search deeper and deeper, establishing you firmly and securely upon the surface of the planet.

Allow gravity and the magnetic attraction of the earth’s heart to draw your roots deeper and wider with each breath you breathe.

When you feel that you are secure and well-rooted, begin on your in-breath to draw sustaining energy back along your root-paths into your body.

Feel the nutritious and life-giving energy of the earth slowly fill the whole body as it travels upwards from the very root-tips of your earthed awareness.

Continue to draw the energy upwards with your in-breath. On the out-breath allow that root system to strengthen and spread deeper and further outwards from your place.

Remain in this pattern of feeling and growing for as long as you like.

When ready, slowly allow the images to fade. Become aware of your physical body, your surroundings. Take a few deep breaths. When you feel ready, slowly open your eyes. Take a while before resuming normal activity.

“Skyline trees –
stitching together
heaven and earth.

The Great becomes Small,
The Small becomes Great.

The Oak tree. Its energy is to maintain the balance within physical reality. The maintenance and harmonisation of opposite forces, the tying together of light and dark, sky and earth, void and form, existence and non-existence. All this can be intimated from the consolidated, rigid tension within the large boughs of the oak tree. As if each oak tree represents a stitch that holds our very reality together in its potent form. Each tree is a vortex of energy. Simultaneously a white and a black hole, drawing into itself and its surroundings the tendency of things to separate and fly apart, to dissolve back into the formless matrix of potential existence.
Oak demonstrates the means by which the individual is able to manifest from out of the many possibilities of how reality might be constructed. Oak absorbs within itself all these possibilities and then reveals new patterns. It helps to define and clarify, allowing communication, the flow of energy, from the hidden sources of existence. Seemingly weaving together impossibly thin threads to create an unbreakable web that will be able to hold all perceptions fast.
Oak itself remains free of time, outside the flow of events, and can thus bring a sense of timelessness, a place of the deepest calm within which to consider possibilities of action and understanding.
Learning the way of oak is treading the labyrinth – always seeming to turn in different directions, but always heading towards the one central, invisible goal without fail.
